Musk v Zuckerberg ? Surely, they can’t be serious!

The word this weekend was that at least one of them is. The world’s richest man Elon Musk talked of war and streaming the fight live to raise money for ex-soldiers.

For heaven’s sake! Sooner, or later, the opinionated online world must finally scream: put up your fists, or shut up!

The strangest fight of the century ?

It could yet be the strangest fight of the century. The spectacle of  two of the world’s richest social media moguls knocking seven bells out of each other in a cage in Las Vegas.

Musk v Zuckerberg: ding ding, seconds out and protect yourself at all times. What price the image of Musk body splashing Zuckerberg – or vice versa !

How much hype – how much hate?

How much of this is hype – merely for a social media storm –  how much of this is hate? It will, hopefully, play out to a conclusion over the next few weeks.

The news this weekend was that the world’s richest man Elon Musk wants to stream the fight live on X – formerly Twitter – social media platform.

“Zuck v Musk fight will be live-streamed on X. All proceeds will go to charity for veterans,” Musk posted on X early on Sunday morning, without giving any further details.

Bigger than Ali ?

Imagine the online numbers and opportunity for entrepreneurs and sponsors?  It could  eclipse the viewing numbers for Muhammed Ali v George Foreman in 1974

That fight, in the then Zaire in Africa, managed a billion viewers. That was one in four of the world’s population, at the time.

People have been talking about this weird mixed martial arts fight, expected to be held in Las Vegas, for weeks.

Musk in training.

Earlier on Sunday, Musk posted on X that he was “lifting weights throughout the day, preparing for the fight,” adding that he did not have time to work out so brings the weights to work. The mind boggles at the thought of Musk making billion dollar decisions while pumping iron at his desk.

When a user on X asked Musk what was the point, Musk replied: “It’s a civilised form of war. Men love war!”

Up for a cage match ?

Zuckerberg’s Meta did not respond to a Reuters request for comment on the Musk post.

It all began, on June 20, when Musk posted he was  “up for a cage match” with Zuckerberg, who is trained in jiu jitsu.

A playground scrap between two rich men.

Zuckerburg asked Musk to send a location for the fight, to which South African born Musk replied with the MMA arena of Vegas Octagon.

So let’s go and get it over with. In any case, time is surely running out for Musk, 51, and Zuckerberg, 39, to stage this fight with medical approval.

Wouldn’t it be better for the world to worry about the fight between Ukraine and Russia that is causing economic havoc, rather than a playground scrap between two rich men old enough to know better?
