Want to know what Love Island is really like? Or perhaps you’re keen to know more about Joshua Ritchie’s business endeavours? Keep reading for the full interview!
This was more ‘At Home With Josh’ than ‘At Home With Matt’ as I headed to Bolton to chat to Joshua Ritchie. It was another open and honest discussion – one of the benefits of my interviews is the chance to get a decent amount of time to actually speak to the interviewees. So many people form opinions of celebrities from a quick interview, probably only lasting a few seconds, which gives barely any insight into their true personality – let alone their back story, hopes and dreams.
Josh and I covered all sorts! He revealed the truth behind his split with Charlotte Crosby and why he didn’t sign up for Celebs Go Dating until AFTER she called things off. This proved very topical as Charlotte was pictured kissing a new flame on I’m A Celebrity Australia, and OK! Magazine picked up on Josh’s version of the story.
Joshua ritchie ON WHAT LOVE ISLAND IS REALLY LIKE
He spoke to me about the whole process behind appearing on Love Island and gave me a glimpse of how it all works behind the scenes. It was fascinating to hear how they genuinely are shut away from the world for an entire week before the show actually starts! He said: “It was tough. You’re in a bubble – you don’t know what’s happening on the outside and you don’t know what people are saying about you. But it was one of the best experiences I’ve had in my life.
“As soon as you get on the plane, you’re on lockdown for a week. You get your phone and watch taken off you so you’ve got no sense of time. You get given board games, DVDs and books because obviously you don’t see the other people at all.”
BUSINESS RUNS IN THE FAMILY
A passion for business runs in his family – his older sister is Michaela Wain who got to the later stage of The Apprentice a few years ago. He told me he spent all of his Love Island money as a 21-year-old, but is now much more focused on saving and investing – he’s even got his own jewellery brand called Ritch Jewels. In the interview, he admitted that he’d made mistakes as a young entrepreneur trying to get into business, but who doesn’t?! I touched on this in a LinkedIn article last year.
