It has happened – Artificial Intelligence is coming up with a way to read your mind with a process that could have come out of a science fiction movie.
AI can write you a poem
We shouldn’t be too surprised – after all, AI can write you a poem or create a work of art. It raises more questions over whether we are running AI or AI is running us.
A breakthrough has been made by researchers at a university in Singapore. It too allows AI to recreate images of whatever is on your mind and turn them into pictures on a screen.
It is an interesting idea and must surely open up a raft of possibilities for entrepreneurs and surely must raise as many questions as it answers.
New Ai research in Singapore.
The new use for Ai emerged from the laboratory of the Chinese University of Hong Kong in Singapore, according to CNN.
The way it works is you put someone into your normal MRI scan machine. Then show them images with nine-second breaks in between.
AI takes the scan and translates your brain activity into a language that it can understand using a program called stable diffusion.
“That is how we read your mind.”
Ai then takes those images and turns them into a picture of what is in your mind’s eye – so to speak.
“That is how we can read your mind,” says Jiaxin Quing, a PhD student working on the project at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
It is hoped that the new AI technology will help people with operating artificial limbs, or helping someone who can’t speak communicate through images in their mind.
It is going to take a lot more work for the project to come up with ways to read the minds of the general public.
Safeguards to protect privacy
Researchers have already volunteered the idea of strict safeguards to protect privacy and the use of images in people’s minds.
This could prove yet another difficult mile in the journey with AI. We have to determine: Are we running it – or is it running us?
