TEASER…In this week’s podcast (which launches Thursday), Matt Haycox interviews media personality and former girl band singer Kerry Katona about her troubled childhood, bankruptcies, divorces and why she refuses to call herself a victim.
Incredibly, Kerry overcame dyslexia and taught herself to read and write when she was 20 years old. “I can’t blame my Mum for my childhood because it’s made me who I am today,” she tells Matt.
“We are all victims of victims. It’s how we deal with it that makes us who we are,” Kerry adds.
Kerry went on to become the founding member of girl band Atomic Kitten, which achieved multiple UK number-one hits. Speaking of their meteoric rise to fame, she says: “We really, really grafted. We did all the shitty night clubs and school gigs. But I enjoyed that bit, I enjoyed the climb. When we finally got the fame, I hated it. I despised it,” she adds.
Kerry went on to marry Brian McFadden, former member of Irish boyband Westlife, in a “fairy tale wedding” and after a series of high-profile TV gigs went on to win ‘I’m a Celebrity…Get Me out of Here,’ in the same year that singer Peter Andrew and model Katie Price met.
But with the highs came the lows, and life soon began to unravel before her eyes…
