I am writing this from isolation during the Corna Virus pandemic which has caused many businesses are have to close their doors. Some only temporarily but many will never open again. So as we are all at home (not ‘stuck’ at home – ‘safe’ at home) this means your ability to earn money is limited, right? You couldn’t be more wrong – all you need is some guidance and motivation!!

I can’t stress this enough – now is not a time for drowning in Netflix. It’s actually an unbelievable opportunity to make a side income from home! No one is too busy NOT to do it (and ‘busy’ is bullshit anyway) but you do need to make sure you channel your time and efforts down the right path. Here are some of my top tips for making money on the side – if you do it properly who knows, when things get back to something approaching normal this side income could end up becoming your full time business!

You can make money on the internet. You just have to decide how much of your time it’s worth. I’m not talking about millions here – I’m mostly talking about doing small, bite-sized projects to generate some fast cash. And depending on your skill set, you could easily make a few hundred pounds or even a few extra thousand per month.

Build a side hustle business

Let’s start with the most obvious – building your own business! There are plenty of ideas for lucrative side hustle businesses that you could easily start from the comfort of your own home. While starting them is easy, actually putting in the work to market and grow those businesses is a bit more challenging. The hard part is seeing them through.

While you could launch a regular business selling someone else’s products, you could also invent your own product. While businesses based on inventions might seem more complex to create, they do present attractive investment opportunities – just look at all the success stories coming out of Dragons’ Den. One recent success is Tancream – read here for how I mentored the inspirational Gillian and Katy before their TV appearance, and how my advice helped them secure funding from two of the dragons!

Create an online course

Something I’ve done already…hundreds of people are studying my ‘Earn While You Learn’ programme as I write this! This is perfect for anyone looking to earn a little extra money on the side. You could be a student looking for ways to make money on the side during your studies, or a single parent wanting to generate side income while you’re at home with the kids. It’s normally £99 – but all you have to do is use the discount code ‘HOMEHUSTLE’ at the checkout and because I’m super generous, you have access to the entire course FOR FREE!

I’ve always wanted to create an online educational course and it gives me a great sense of pride and satisfaction that I’m helping people to achieve their goals through Earn While You Learn. And of course, you don’t have to be as kind-hearted as me 😃 – why not turn your skills into cash by launching your own online course and charging people to access it?

It’s not as intimidating as it might sound! All you need is a passion for your area of expertise and a mobile phone to film yourself – so basically, you should be good to go straightaway!

Sell stuff!

A great way to make side income which has been around since the dawn of time is – sell stuff! Loads of people are earning a little extra money on the side by either selling their stuff they no longer want or need, or helping to sell items for other people and making commission. Sites like eBay and Craigslist are perfect for this sort of side hustle.

Selling on eBay offers more friction than Craigslist and you’ll need to establish solid reviews before you can begin to move high-ticket items. If you have some solid online marketing skills, you’ll find this much easier than if you’re a complete newbie to the world of digital marketing.

Start a blog

Blogs are quite possibly one of the best ways to earn money on the side. While starting a blog might be simple you will need to put in the work and the effort in order to reap the benefits.

However, once that blog gets going, generating an income and scaling up your business is straightforward. Simply produce more content and line up more offers. As your blog grows in popularity, you’ll also be able to attract top talent willing to write for you simply in exchange for one very powerful back link to their own websites.

Create webinars

I don’t have a huge amount of webinar experience, but I know enough to know that lots of people are making lots of money from it, hence my increased interest in it as a way to make money on the side! The entrepreneur Jason Fladlien has made more than $100 million from webinars. They’re formulaic. If you can master that formula, you can make your mark. Find a great business idea or opportunity that you can sell that delivers massive amounts of value.

Social media management

Social media management is a great way to generate an income from home. With the huge potential of social media, both in terms of engagement and reach, businesses are falling over themselves to get on social media – but most of them don’t have a clue how to do it properly.

Building a social media management business might take some effort and time, but it’s well worth it. You could charge a sizable monthly fee for each business to help manage their social media, allowing you to generate a fantastic side income. Do it well, and it could soon become your full-time job

Affiliate marketing

While you do need some type of audience to sell these products or services to, you could make a significant amount of money from home while doing it. Some products or services have very high earnings per click. That means, if you play your cards right, you could easily make a large profit on conversions by driving traffic to specific offers as long as you target the right interests. Search for the right offer and ensure that you present it to the right audience and don’t spam people about it.
