Which finance firm has been voted best to work for by UK employees?
In a move that may surprise some, Morgan Stanley has been voted the best UK financial services firm to work for, according to a new report.
The analysis, conducted by employee engagement experts Weekly10, analysed online Glassdoor reviews for 1,090 companies with employees in the UK, to determine which are the best places to work.
It took user ratings for several different categories, such as salary and business outlook, which were then weighted and added together to create an ‘Employee Satisfaction Score’ out of 100 for each company.
The outcome will surprise some because Morgan Stanley’s CEO has been one of the most vocal anti-homeworking advocates.
Morgan Stanley CEO, James Gorman, has maintained a pro-office and anti-remote work stance for the last few years, famously saying “if you can go to a restaurant in New York City, you can come into the office.”
He has since said: “Working remotely is not an employee choice.”
However, clearly Gorman’s strong stance of getting laggards back into the office has not affected employee satisfaction. And its UK employees are happy to comply.
The research categories considered were salary, business outlook, recommendation to friends, approval of the CEO, ratings from different demographic groups, health benefits, financial benefits, flexible work hours and working from home, sick pay and vacation days, transportation benefits, career opportunities, and miscellaneous benefits.
Companies with more than 1,000 reviews, 20 salaries and 5 job openings were included in the research.
Morgan Stanley was voted the top financial services firm in the UK, with a satisfaction score of 79.61 out of 100 based on ratings of employee feedback. The financial services company received 86.75 for approval of its CEO, and it has a median annual salary of £67,658.
In the study, Google was voted as the best company to work for overall, by employees based in the UK, with Salesforce coming in second and Morgan Stanley third. Deutsche Bank and Cisco Systems ranked fourth and fifth place, respectively.
GOOGLE
Google’s employee satisfaction score ranked at 82.88 out of 100 overall. It received 95.35 for career opportunities and 89.30 for salary, with the median annual salary approximately £82,500.
SALESFORCE
In second place was software firm Salesforce, with a satisfaction score of 81.28 out of 100 based on ratings of employee feedback. The median annual salary is approximately £73,566.
DEUTSCHE BANK
Investment banking firm Deutsche Bank ranked fourth with a satisfaction score of 79.29 out of 100, scoring 72.95 for business outlook based on ratings of employee feedback. It’s average annual salary is £73,002.
CISCO SYSTEMS
Digital communications company Cisco Systems came in fifth with a score of 79.11. It’s average annual salary comes in at £56,389.
Other companies that managed to make the top ten include Dell Technologies, Accenture, Bank of America, Avanade, and Microsoft.
