This week’s guest needs no lengthy intro. We certainly had more than ’21 seconds’ for this interview. British rapper MC Harvey is a legend in the UK’s music and entertainment scene, both in the past and present. From recording No.1 songs with So Solid Crew to delving into reality TV and currently dedicating a significant amount of time to his ambassadorship and charity work, Harvey has covered more ground than my morning jog. Welcome, Harvey!
Who is MC Harvey?
Born in the heart of London on May 1, 1979, MC Harvey, or Michael Harvey Jr., is more than just a name; he’s a significant figure in the British entertainment world. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, chances are you’ve danced to the chart-topping garage hits of So Solid Crew, especially ‘Oh No (Sentimental Things)’ and ’21 Seconds.’ The latter snagged the Best British Video at the 2002 BRIT Awards, and that same year, So Solid collected numerous awards at the MOBOs.
Harvey isn’t solely about recording albums; he’s ventured behind the camera, making appearances on Channel 4, hosting ‘T4,’ and even competing on reality TV’s ‘Celebrity Big Brother,’ where he reached the final. He also took part in an episode of Celebrity Wedding Planner on Channel 5 alongside Martin Kemp in January 2013.
Harvey’s career isn’t your average tabloid gossip, there’s been personal victories and setbacks. Behind the ‘bad man’ exterior, Harvey remains determined, constantly exploring new musical avenues, delving into entrepreneurial ventures, and working with numerous charitable initiatives.
Key takeaways:
Resilience: MC Harvey has shown resilience in the face of adversity. Despite facing tabloid gossip, violent threats, prison sentences, affairs, and challenges from the streets, he persevered. He not only built a brand but also a crew, carving out a successful career despite the hurdles.
Adaptability and Transitions: One of the major takeaways was Harvey’s adaptability and knack for transitions. Moving beyond the So Solid Crew era, he explored various career paths, showcasing versatility through his presenting roles and unexpected encounters, such as meeting Steven Seagal.
The Power of Loyalty: Harvey was passionate about loyalty. Whether addressing friend or employee loyalty, he emphasised the significance of trust, commitment, and support in relationships, both personal and professional.
Commitment to Charity: An essential takeaway was Harvey’s commitment to charity. His dedication to various charitable businesses highlighted his persistent effort to make a tangible, positive impact by giving back to those less fortunate and looking after others because he can.
