Prince William Caught COVID in April
When Prince Charles, the heir to the throne, contracted the coronavirus in March, the nation was told. But it now appears that his son Prince William also caught the virus a short while later, and that is only coming out now.
According to the Sun newspaper, Prince William caught the virus in April.
The Duke of Cambridge, 38, was said in the media to have kept the diagnosis secret “because he didn’t want to alarm the nation”.
“There were important things going on and I didn’t want to worry anyone”, the prince was reported to have told a guest at an engagement, adding he was “determined it should be business as usual”.
It’s uncertain if the implication is that Prince Charles unduly alarmed the nation when his diagnosis was announced. Or why the nation would have been more alarmed at him falling victim to the virus than to his father, who is the heir to the throne.
The BBC also reported that Prince William had contracted the disease, but William’s Kensington Palace office did not confirm or deny the reports
The Sun reported that Palace doctors had treated the prince, who was isolated at the family home in Norfolk, where he carried out telephone and video call engagements.
Didn’t want to alarm nation with the news
An unnamed source was reported as saying that “William was hit pretty hard by the virus — it really knocked him for six”.
“At one stage he was struggling to breathe, so obviously everyone around him was pretty panicked,” the source told The Sun.
Prince Charles, 71, was in self-isolation at his residence in Scotland after announcing on March 25 that he had mild symptoms of the virus,. Two days later, Prime Minister Boris Johnson tested positive and had to be receive intensive care treatment.
In April, Prince William spoke about his concern for the health of the Queen, his father and grandfather, without letting on about any concern for his own health.
“We are doing everything we can to make sure they are isolated away and protected from this, but it does worry me,” he said to the BBC on April 17.
The Queen, 94, and the Duke of Edinburgh, 99, were in self-isolation at Windsor Castle, west of London, as a precaution because of their age and heightened risk.
